Pericardium 6 (PC6) – “The Inner Calm Point”

Jul 22, 2026

Modern life rarely slows down. Between busy schedules, endless notifications, travel, and daily responsibilities, it’s easy for stress to build up — not only in the mind but throughout the body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes the close relationship between emotional well-being, heart health, and digestion. One of its most trusted points for promoting this connection is Pericardium 6 (PC6), also called Neiguan.

Located on the inner forearm, PC6 has been used for centuries to help calm anxious thoughts, ease nausea, reduce tension, and encourage a greater sense of balance. Whether you’re preparing for a long trip, recovering from a stressful day, or simply looking for a natural way to unwind, this point can become a valuable part of your daily wellness routine.

How to Find PC6 at Home

PC6 is located on the inside of your forearm.

  • Turn one palm upward.
  • Place three fingers of your opposite hand across your wrist crease.
  • Just below your three fingers, between the two prominent tendons running down the center of the forearm, you’ll find PC6.
  • The spot may feel slightly tender when pressed.
  • Repeat the process on either wrist.

How to Activate the Point

Using your thumb:

  1. Apply steady, comfortable pressure to PC6.
  2. Massage with slow circular motions or maintain firm, consistent pressure.
  3. Continue for 1-3 minutes on one wrist.
  4. Repeat on the opposite wrist.
  5. Focus on slow, deep breathing while applying pressure for added relaxation.

You can use PC6 whenever you feel stressed, nauseated, anxious, or before traveling to help reduce motion sickness.

Potential Benefits of PC6

PC6 is traditionally used to support:

  • Reducing everyday stress and nervous tension
  • Promoting relaxation and emotional balance
  • Helping relieve occasional nausea and motion sickness
  • Supporting healthy digestion
  • Easing feelings of chest tightness associated with stress
  • Encouraging restful sleep
  • Helping relieve mild headaches related to tension
  • Supporting overall heart and circulatory wellness
  • Creating a greater sense of calm and mindfulness

While acupressure is not a replacement for professional medical care, many people find PC6 to be a simple and comforting addition to their wellness routine.

Fun Facts

  • Neiguan translates to “Inner Pass” or “Inner Gate,” symbolizing a pathway to inner balance and emotional well-being.
  • PC6 is one of the most widely researched acupuncture and acupressure points, particularly for helping manage nausea following surgery, chemotherapy, pregnancy, and motion sickness.
  • Many acupressure wristbands designed for travel sickness work by applying continuous pressure to the PC6 point.
  • In TCM, the Pericardium Meridian is associated with protecting the heart — both physically and emotionally.

Helpful Tips

  • Try stimulating PC6 before long car rides, boat trips, or flights if you’re prone to motion sickness.
  • Pair acupressure with slow breathing or a brief mindfulness exercise for an even greater calming effect.
  • Stay hydrated, especially if you’re using PC6 to ease nausea.
  • Gentle pressure works best — avoid pressing so firmly that it causes pain.
  • If you’re experiencing persistent chest pain, severe dizziness, or ongoing nausea, seek prompt medical evaluation rather than relying on acupressure alone.

PC6 (Neiguan), known as the Inner Calm Point, is one of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s most beloved acupressure points for encouraging relaxation, emotional balance, digestive comfort, and overall well-being. Conveniently located on the inner wrist, it can be activated in just a few minutes to help ease everyday stress, support healthy digestion, and promote a sense of calm wherever life takes you.
