Therapeutic Massage
Massage is a manual manipulation of the body’s soft tissue for the purpose of stimulating circulation and promoting relaxation. It has been used in many world cultures for more than 4,000 years. Massage allows you a quiet time to focus on yourself and become more connected to your body. Therapeutic massage involves a combination of gentle pressure on muscles and joints to improve circulation as well as some deep tissue work which involves the therapist using her forearms, elbows or thumbs to apply pressure. Deep tissue work along with Swedish massage techniques help to loosen muscles in a specific area.
Therapeutic Massage have the following benefits:
- Relaxes muscle tissue
- Reduces stress
- Improves circulation
- Increases energy
- Increases flexibility
- Improves range of motion
- Treats sleep disorders
- Treats depression
- Strengthens the immune system
- Center the mind and body
Shiatsu / Anma
Shiatsu / Anma are the two traditional methods of Japanese Massage Therapy.
They are systems which mimic Acupuncture and use the exact same system of Chinese medicine, only without the use of needles.
In Chinese medicine, it is more a theory of energy balancing rather than the western idea of organ dysfunction. Shiatsu employs gentle pressure on the appropriate points as in Acupuncture.
Anma in contrast, is the physical massage therapy, employing gentle stretching and the “warming up” of the body.
The two modalities combine to make a lovely soothing massage experience.
